Places to Visit

Paro

Home to the Bhutan's sole international airport, Paro frequently serves as tourists' first impression of the country. The town is rich in natural beauty and history, with being tucked away in a lovely valley filled with lush greenery. Ancient religious buildings, terraced fields, and traditional homes are scattered throughout the countryside as the Paro River (Paro Chhu) meanders through it. The famous Tiger's Nest Monastery, also known as Paro Taktsang, which is perched on a cliff, is the valley's main attraction among tourists. Rinpung Dzong is another major attraction, a fortress-monastery that is a notable example of Bhutanese architecture and the administrative hub of the valley.

Thimphu

The capital city of Bhutan, Thimphu provides a distinctive fusion of contemporary living and traditional culture. With the colossal Buddha Dordenma statue overlooking the valley, Tashichho Dzong housing the King's throne room, and the National Memorial Chorten, the city is a centre of political and cultural activity. To get a sense of Bhutan's rich history, visitors can also tour the Folk Heritage Museum, the weekend Centenary Farmers' Market, and other traditional artisan shops.

Phobjikha Valley

Popularly known as Gangtey Valley, Phobjikha Valley is a breathtaking glacier valley located on the central part of the Himalayan Kingdom. A U-shaped valley that has been classified as a conservation area, the place is home to some of the largest wildlife in the country. The uncommon and endangered black-necked cranes, which migrate from the Tibetan Plateau, are most famous for spending the winter in the valley. The stunning Gangtey Monastery, a 17th-century monastery situated atop a hill with a view of the valley, is the valley's primary landmark. In Phobjikha, tourists can take leisurely nature walks, tour traditional villages, and discover the conservation initiatives aimed at preserving the black-necked crane.

Dochula Pass

On the route from Thimphu to Punakha, the Dochula Pass is a mountain pass that provides some of Bhutan's most breathtaking sweeping vistas. Visitors witness the 360-degree vista of the magnificent Himalayan range on a clear day. The pass is renowned for its 108 chortens, or stupas, known as the Druk Wangyal Chortens which are honoured for soldiers of Bhutan who lost their lives in war. The Druk Wangyal Lhakhang temple and these chortens contribute to the calm and spiritual ambiance. Travelers frequently stop at the pass to snap pictures, sip tea at the neighbourhood cafe, and take in the breathtaking landscape and ethereal buildings.

Bumthang

Bumthang is a vast valley located on the central-eastern region of Bhutan that is frequently referred to as Bhutan's spiritual core. Some of the oldest and holiest temples and monasteries in the nation may be found in the region, many of them are connected to the renowned Buddhist master Guru Rinpoche. The Jakar Dzong, historic Jambay Lhakhang temple, and the Kurjey Lhakhang, a monastery erected around a rock where Guru Rinpoche meditated, are some of the major the attractions to cover during a trip to Bumthang.

Phuentsholing

As a thriving border town where Indian and Bhutanese cultures collide, Phuentsholing is the primary entry point to Bhutan from India. It is a distinctive fusion of a bustling business centre with a peaceful and vibrant town. Phuentsholing has a more contemporary metropolitan setting in contrast to the traditional architecture of the rest of Bhutan. The Bhutan Gate and Zangto Pelri Lhakhang are two of the town's primary attractions along with Kharbandi Monastery, Ammo Chu Suspension Bridge and many more. The city offers a fascinating initial or final glimpse of the nation's distinct cultural and economic status.

Haa Valley

One of the most charming and less-travelled valleys in Bhutan is Haa Valley that offers peace and unspoiled natural beauty.
