People and Culture

The people are Bhutan are widely known for their rich culture which are deeply rooted to the Vajrayana Buddhism. From monasteries and prayer flags to the colorful religious celebrations like Tshechu and masked dances of villages, the country spiritual influence is visible everywhere. Bhutanese society is further defined by the distinctive Gross National Happiness (GNH) philosophy, which places a higher priority on the welfare of the group than on individual wealth. This philosophy informs government policies throughout the country's four pillars: good governance, environmental conservation, cultural preservation, and sustainable development.

In the world filled with digital technologies, Bhutan has able to keep itself isolated form the rest of the world that has helped the nation to preserve its ancient culture. The Ngalops, Sharchops, and Lhotshampas are the three main ethnic groups that make up Bhutan's population, along with a number of lesser indigenous tribes. Despite having such variety, the people of Bhutan are united with their national culture and traditions.
