Although Bhutan is known for its isolated areas, the Himalayan kingdom offers a truly unique travel experience. For Indian citizens, reaching Bhutan is relatively straightforward due to the friendly bilateral relations. However, there are numerous travelling options for international tourists.
This is by far the most convenient and the fastest way tor each Bhutan. Paro International Airport is the only airport located on the Paro valley that offers direct and connecting flights to major cities of India. However, booking flight in advance can be helpful during peak season.
Bhutan can also be easily reachable through roadways as it shares land border with West Bengal and Assam, two major Indian state.
Although there are no direct train lines to Bhutan, you can go to neighbouring Indian stations to cross the country's border. The nearest is Hasimara (HSA), West Bengal, which is easily reachable by taxi or shared jeep and is roughly 17–18 km from the Phuentsholing border. Major hub New Jalpaiguri (NJP) also provides direct road transport to the border or onward connections, with trains to both accessible from important Indian towns like Delhi and Kolkata.
